Identification of investment opportunities in the fonio value chain in West Africa

Fonio is an ancient grain grown exclusively in West Africa and recently has started to be marketed as a super grain in Europe and North America. For the IFC, CrossBoundary conducted a detailed assessment of the fonio value chain in West Africa and export markets to identify investment and technical assistance opportunities.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is focused on encouraging private-sector development in emerging markets. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the IFC offers investment, advisory, and asset management services.

CrossBoundary Advisory completed a detailed assessment of the fonio value chain in West Africa and major export markets such as Europe and the USA. We mobilized our team in Mali, Senegal, Guinea, and Burkina Faso, reviewing and assessing 57 companies along the fonio value chain to identify major investment opportunities for the IFC.
